Cosmic Terror

owlson Dungeon synth is the label used repeatedly in descriptions of Varkana and I would not disagree. However, I would add that this music sits equally well alongside that of artists from the Ghost Box label. The bonus for me is that Varkana's work lacks the arch self-awareness that can be the worst aspect of the hauntology genre. It's sincere and bears repeated listening.

Metallurgical Fire Cosmic Terror transcends genre. It’s a completely captivating release. Favorite track: Devourer of Stars.

Michael With one foot in medieval/folk dungeon synth, and one foot in retro synth music (certain passages would not sound out of place on a S U R V I V E album), Varkana continues to push the boundaries of the genre.

David Loveless Probably the best Dungeon Synth album you’ll hear this year!!

about

Then in the slow creeping course of eternity the utmost cycle of the cosmos churned itself into another futile completion, and all things became again as they were unreckoned kalpas before.
Matter and light were born anew as space once had known them; and comets, suns, and worlds sprang flaming into life, though nothing survived to tell that they had been and gone, been and gone, always and always, back to no first beginning.
