owlson Dungeon synth is the label used repeatedly in descriptions of Varkana and I would not disagree. However, I would add that this music sits equally well alongside that of artists from the Ghost Box label. The bonus for me is that Varkana's work lacks the arch self-awareness that can be the worst aspect of the hauntology genre. It's sincere and bears repeated listening.

Metallurgical Fire Cosmic Terror transcends genre. It’s a completely captivating release. Favorite track: Devourer of Stars.

Michael With one foot in medieval/folk dungeon synth, and one foot in retro synth music (certain passages would not sound out of place on a S U R V I V E album), Varkana continues to push the boundaries of the genre.
